Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), The Exposition of MosesThis sombre, late masterpiece was painted for the artist Jaques Stella in 1654. It illustrates the moment in the Bible when the mother of the infant Moses entrusts her child to the River Nile, rather than see him put to death by Pharaoh's troops.

Purchased in 1950 through the generosity of the daughters of the late Sir Edward Fry, G.C.B.
