Sandstone torso of VishnuThe Hindu god Vishnu, Preserver of the Universe, is represented as a youthful princely figure wearing a high crown, heavy jewellery and a garland. His four hands (now missing) may have held a lotus, conch, mace and discus. This statue, in early Gupta style, is from Mathura, North India. It was made in around AD400.

Acquired in 1996.
