Valerie Stewart, together with Joan Crossley- Holland, founded the Oxford Gallery in 1968. Valerie's main interest was in jewellery and metalwork and through the gallery she played an important role in promoting a number of extremely talented young artists, including Michael Lloyd, whose first exhibition was at the gallery in 1980.
