Bowl

Silver

Origin: London

Date: 1672-1673

22.3 cm diameter; 441 g weight

Marks/Maker: London, sterling standard, 1672-3, maker's mark WN in a heart, cinquefoil below, possibly for William Norman

Heraldry: Arms of Brouncker, with the cadency mark of a second son, probably for Henry Brouncker (c. 1628-1688)

Provenance: (Probably) Henry, 3rd Viscount Brouncker (d.1688)

Bequeathed by A.T. Carter, 1947; WA1947.21

T. Schroder (2009), no. 225

The form of this bowl has no recorded parallels, although it is possible that it was originally a saucepan with a turned wooden handle.

Information derived from T. Schroder, British and Continental Gold and Silver in the Ashmolean (2009)
