Clay barrel jug
Made in the 7th–6th century BC, this is an outstanding example of craftsmanship of the Cypro-Archaic period. H: 30 cm. AN1885.366.
The elaborate combination of intricate geometric pattern with representational figure drawing, presented so boldly on an otherwise largely underworked surface, has come to be known as ‘Free Field' style. Bought in Larnaca, Cyprus, in 1885.
