Visitors are invited to enquire at the Information Desk (at the front entrance of the museum) about how to gain access to the Print Room. It is usually possible to secure a space on arrival but it should be noted that the Print Room can become very busy and that you may have to wait for a space to become free (usually no more than 30 minutes, but sometimes longer). The Information Desk staff will also be able to help you find the Print Room within the museum.
Access for visitors with impaired mobility
There is no lift access to the Print Room, but most works on paper from the collection can be made available for visitors with impaired mobility in a room above the Print Room. It is helpful to give the Print Room staff some notice in order to book this room.
Viewing of Michelangelo and Raphael drawings by appointment
The drawings by Michelangelo and Raphael have been shown extensively within the museum since their arrival in 1846. In an attempt to preserve these important drawings for future generations we endeavour not to over-expose them to light and altering atmospheric conditions. Therefore, visitors wishing to see them are requested to make an appointment in writing or by e-mail (email@example.com), with a minimum of twenty-four hours’ notice.
The Western Art collection of drawings and prints is used by teachers and members of the University in the context of studies in Art History, but members of the general public are also welcome to organise group visits to the Print Room.
Group visits may be organised subject to the availability of staff to supervise them. A maximum of 12 people can be accommodated, for an hour, Tuesday to Friday (10.30–12.30 and 14.30–16.30). A minimum of two week’s notice is required.
