Skills For the Future

Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Skills for the Future - Trainee Education Officer Programme.

The HLF funded 'Skills for the Future' Project is across all the Oxford University Museums and Collections (OUMC). This includes the Ashmolean Museum, Pitt Rivers, Natural History Museum, Museum of the History of Science, Joint Museums Education Service (Volunteers and Outreach) and Botanic Garden and Arboretum.

The aim of the project is to give opportunities for individuals to become trainees and learn along side the Education Departments of the OUMC. At the end of the 18 months traineeship, the trainees should have experienced 'on the job' work life as an Education Officer and also have a portfolio which will help them progress in the area of Museum Education.

The project began in May 2011 and will continue until 2015. During that time, we will have 3 cohorts with 4 trainees on each one. Each cohort is 18 months long and during that time, the trainee is based with 3 of the OUMC institutions' Education Departments.

The recruitment for the next cohort of trainees will begin in April 2012 and will be advertised on all the OUMC websites and in various local and national media. We will only accept applications with the official application form, which will be available from April 2012.
