Welcome to the Ashmolean Education Department.
The Ashmolean is in the middle of an exciting redevelopment and rebuilding project which will result in the creation of new galleries, a roof top café, conservation studios and a purpose built education centre with teaching space and a lunch area.
To complete this amazing project the Museum is closing to the public on 23rd December 2008 and reopening in November 2009.
During this time the Education Team will be researching and developing fantastic new programmes for people to enjoy in the new museum. It will be worth the wait!
Please look at the website for more details as they are revealed during 2009.

The Ashmolean Development Plan
The transformed Ashmolean will bring significant benefits for the Ashmolean Education Service and visiting public, not least the following:
- a new large education area with lunch facilities for schools, a teaching room and art area.
- exciting new education activities for schools and other audiences.
- further opportunities for interactive learning.
- creative and accessible galleries for all ages and interests.
The intention is that the Western Art Galleries and Egyptian galleries will remain open during the building work. However, occasionally it may be necessary to temporarily close some galleries in this part of the Museum if there is excessive noise, dust or vibration from the building work. The Antiquities Galleries, Cast Gallery, Coin Room and Eastern Art galleries will be closed throughout the development project. Limited selections from these collections will be displayed in the Museum galleries that remain open, e.g. some Greek pots will be displayed in the Randolph Sculpture Gallery. Follow this link to see a schedule of gallery closures.
