We offer a range of events and activities for the adult general public who are interested in developing their creative skills and deepening their understanding of an area of the collections or the subject of an exhibition.
For more information see links below, email education.service@ashmus.ox.ac.uk, or telephone: 01865 278015 (Mon-Fri, 9am to 1pm).
All group bookings must be booked in advance (see Booking or alternatively Contact Us). We regret that we cannot usually offer guided tours in languages other than English.
You can gain an idea of the range of tours, gallery talks, workshops and study days we offer by looking at the Tours and events and News & Events pages. Please note that booking for these is essential.
Gallery tours
These are given by specially trained volunteer guides. There are several weekly introductory tours to a wide range of galleries, plus spotlights. Please note that guided tours last approximately 1 hour.
If you are a group of English-speaking young people who would like a guided tour, please telephone 01865 278015 and tell us your field of interest. We will do our best to match your required subject to galleries currently open to the public.
Lunchtime gallery talks
Each week these are given by specially trained volunteer guides and Museum curators; they focus on specific topics.

Public lectures
These are given by Museum curators and visiting lecturers and focus on specific topics.

Practical art workshops
These workshops offer an opportunity to work with artists, use different media and explore art and design techniques, looking at the Ashmolean's varied and exciting collections as a starting point and source of inspiration. Workshops are led by practising artists and always include time in the galleries with curatorial or Museum Education staff. Follow this link to see our current programme of practical art workshops.
Study days
These allow more intensive exploration of the cultural background to an exhibition or area of the collections; they usually include slide lectures and gallery talks.
