AN1939.591 Copy of a wall painting, Semite playing lyre with donkey

Copy of a wall painting, private tomb 3 of Khnumhotep III, Beni Hasan, Semite playing lyre preceded by donkey by Nina de Garis Davies (1881–1965).

Nina de Garis Davies was an Egyptologist who, along with her husband Norman, would record paintings from egyptian tombs. They would trace the artwork using a technique that enabled nearly exact brushstroke and colour reproduction.

This copy is from a wall in the tomb of Knunmhotep III who was an Ancient Egyptian high steward and vizier of the 12th Dynasty. Khnumhotep was promoted as a young man, under Senusret II to the royal court and was sent on several missions, one of them to the Red Sea, another one to Byblos.
