Professor Malcolm Gaskill, University of East Anglia, Associate Curator of Spellbound.
This talk explores the witch trials of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, considering what made people believe in witchcraft and act upon such beliefs. Moving away from clichés about delusion and hysteria, Gaskill argues that witchcraft accusations were rooted in much more familiar human emotions.
