TALKING... NO OFFENCE

THIS EVENT HAS OCCURED

Join us for a series of short research-inspired gallery talks in our No Offence: Exploring LGBTQ+ Histories exhibition, led by Oxford University DPhil candidates and Early Career Researchers.

“Nobody’s Perfect!”: Gender Queering from France to the Wild West

The Chevalier d’Eon was one of the most famous spies in 18th century France and One-eyed Charley was an eminent stagecoach driver in 19th century California. In this talk, Paul Gaither discusses two lives lived outside prescribed gender roles and the public outcry at the discovery of their born sex.
