The Ashmolean’s new Hackney, Stow and Gregory Gallery illustrates the story of the foundation of the Museum by Elias Ashmole in 1683. Alison Roberts, one of its curators, will give us an insight into the background to the project, the design, conservation and other processes involved, and some of the highlights of the new Gallery. These include iconic objects such as Cromwell’s death mask, Guy Fawkes’s lantern and Powhatan’s Mantle. Drinks will be served after the lecture, and there will be a private view in the Gallery with Alison until 6pm.
