Netsukes are small carved ornaments worn with traditional Japanese kimono. They originated as practical objects, but gradually evolved over a period of over three hundred years to become an outlet for sculptors to express their creativity. Examine these miniature pieces of art up close at this handling session, which showcases the Ashmolean's collection of netsuke.
