Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the Eastern Art reserve collections in the Jameel Centre, located on the first floor of the Museum, off gallery 29. Members of staff at the Information Desk on the ground floor can provide information on how to get to the Jameel Centre.

All items in the collection (prints and paintings, ceramics, metalwork, stone, textiles, etc.) are available for viewings by appointment. Bookings are taken over the phone, in writing, or by email. A week’s notice is recommended as some areas of the collection are stored offsite, but we shall endeavour to accommodate viewings on a shorter notice if possible.

Please note that children under 16 are not allowed in the Jameel Centre. However, special arrangements can be made for children working on specific school projects.

Access for visitors with impaired mobility

The Jameel Centre is accessible via the Museum lifts. Please let the Jameel Centre staff know in advance if help to reach the study area is required.

Group visits

Group visits to the Jameel Centre are welcome and require booking. Subject to staff availability, groups can be also accommodated on Mondays when the Jameel Centre (as well as the Museum) is closed to the larger public. A maximum of 15 people per session can be accommodated, but this might vary according to material requested for the viewing. A minimum of one week’s notice is required.

Photography of objects

Record photography of objects in the collection can be taken for study purposes and personal research use only. For any other use, and for professional photography, please contact the Picture Library.

Please note that no flash or tripod/stand can be used.
