Party like it’s the 1600s! Celebrate with Elias Ashmole, founder of the Ashmolean Museum, as well as King Charles I and a parade of Civil War Cavaliers & Courtesans.

Join us from 6.30pm when King Charles I will lead, on horseback, a parade from Broad Street to the Ashmolean Museum. Book your FREE ticket to then join Elias Ashmole in welcoming His Majesty to the Museum and celebrating Mr Ashmole’s 400th birthday. What gift will the King bring?

Find out more about the fascinating history of Oxford during the English Civil War, learn how to address the King correctly, meet the townspeople, and much more. With period dancing, music and quizzes, immerse yourself in the 1600s.

There will be prizes for the best dressed!

The Rooftop Restaurant and Crypt Café will also be open all evening.

Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to host this event for free and work with groups such as Past Pleasures, The Earl of Manchester’s Regiment of Foote and celebrate the Ashmolean’s founder, Elias Ashmole.
