Regions of Britain: Scotland

The collections at the Ashmolean Museum contain material from Scotland covering a variety of periods. The object below, although probably not from Scotland, was possibly purchased by John Evans because of the close likeness of the object to the flag of Scotland.

A broad, double-edged sword blade, decorated and dated 1542 was most probably made for James V of Scotland. The blade forms part of the original Tradescant collection. (AN1685.B105)
