  The Metrological Relief
Why is it broken and badly worn?
  The Metrological Relief (a000103)
  • When Greek and Roman civilisation came to an end, marble was often re-used as building material, or even burnt for lime (those houses on Mykonos are white for a good reason [Delos lies just next door]). The missing fragment has yet to turn up. The roughness along the bottom is probably due to its having been wrenched from its original setting with a crowbar.
