This is one of the two examples in the Museum's collection of the many forms of standard domestic cast candlestick made during the first two or three decades of the eighteenth century. Based on the French 'flambeau la financi re', this was initially associated with Huguenot makers but gradually became the norm (see also WA1946.54b).
