Tumbler cup

Silver

Origin: London

Date: 1728-1729

5.1 cm height; 87 g weight

Marks/Maker: London, sterling standard, 1728-9, maker's mark of Humphrey Payne

Heraldry: Crest of Farrer

Bequeathed by W.F. Farrer, 1946; WA1946.128

T. Schroder (2009), no. 48

The cup does not appear in Farrer's manuscript list of his collection, so is presumably old family plate. Although the 'T*P' over 1729 engraved on the base suggests the crest may have been engraved at a later date.

Information derived from T. Schroder, British and Continental Gold and Silver in the Ashmolean (2009)
