attributed to Louis-Etienne Watelet (1780 - 1866)

A Mill in a mountainous Landscape

A1194; oil on copper; 7.9 x 10.3 cm

Bequeathed by Cyril Eland, 1996; WA1996.21

The attribution is based on an inscribed label on the back. Watelet began in the tradition of classical landscape painting in early 19th-century France but adopted more rustic subjects in his later work. Mills were a favourite motif.
