Dame Ethel Walker (1861 - 1951)

Sun and Wind

A1026; oil on canvas; 64 x 89 cm

Bequeathed by Mrs W.S.S. Tyrwhitt, 1966; WA1966.42.3

Ethel Walker spent the greater part of her working life between Cheyne Walk, Chelsea and her cottage at Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire. Her sea-pieces, painted while on holiday, are studies in light and atmosphere between the sea and the sky, painted in the broad, Impressionist technique she favoured.
