Daisy Linda Ward (née Travers) (1883 - 1937)

Still Life with Fruit

A523; oil on canvas; 34 x 45 cm

Signed: Linda Travers

Bequeathed by Daisy Linda Ward, 1939; WA1940.2.95

Meijer 2003, p. 11

The artist appeared at the Royal Academy summer exhibition for the first time in 1925. Her speciality was still life. With her husband, Theodore Ward, she collected the group of Dutch and Flemish still-life paintings which were bequeathed to the Ashmolean in 1939. The effect of reflected light on rich, shining objects set against a dark background, derives from the work of Willem Kalf and his followers.
