Elizabeth Woodville (?1437-1492) married King Edward IV privately in 1464. She suffered numerous vicissitudes in the political turmoil of the late 15th century, but, among other achievements, refounded and endowed Queens' College, Cambridge. This portrait was derived from one in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle.
