Thomas Barker of Bath (1769 - 1847):
Hannah Mary de Cardonnel Lawson
A1103; oil on canvas; 39.5 x 29.5 cm.
Bequeathed by Archibald G.B. Russell, C.V.O., 1958; WA1958.119.
The donor identified this sketch as a portrait of Hannah Mary, daughter of Adam Mansfeldt de Cardonnel Lawson of Chirton and Cramlington, Northumberland, who married Joseph Elmsell of Woodlands, near Doncaster in 1824. However, it has more the appearance of a freely painted head study than a portrait.
