Peter Lanyon (1918 - 1964):
A1245; oil on board attached to painted backboard; 54.3 x 36 cm.
Signed: Lanyon; inscribed on back of the backboard: Greystone / Peter Lanyon 53.
Purchased, 2001; WA2001.176.
As one of the leading members of post-war generation of St Ives artists, Lanyon was primarily interested in the representation of landscape. This work epitomises the tension between abstraction and figuration in an otherwise carefully descriptive work.
