The Department of Western Art houses outstanding collections of European fine and decorative arts from the Renaissance to the present day. They include Old Master and later paintings, drawings, watercolours and prints, and English and continental ceramics, sculpture, silver, watches, rings and musical instruments.

The Ashmolean's next Wigmore Conference, Other Worlds: Symbolist Art in Europe and Beyond, will be held in the Sultan Nazrin Shah Conference Centre, Worcester College, Oxford on 14-15 December this year.

Speakers from Europe, the Americas and Asia will explore the artistic diversity of Symbolism by focusing on different art forms, including the fine and decorative arts, architecture, literature, book art and more, originating within and beyond the European continent. 

Thanks to the generosity of Barrie and Deedee Wigmore, the conference is free to attend but you will need to reserve a ticket online. Check back here soon.

The conference is open to everyone. Refreshments and lunches will be provided.
