Elias Ashmole Group
Founded by the Ashmolean's Director, Christopher Brown, this exclusive group has awarded many grants to the Museum, contributing substantially to various projects including acquisitions, the renovation of galleries, the funding of posts, and giving considerable support to the Museum's Education Department.
Elias Ashmole, after whom this exclusive patrons group is named, inherited the Tradescants' collection as a thank you for publishing its catalogue. In 1683 he bestowed the collection upon the University of Oxford, effectively founding the Ashmolean.
This group has its own annual programme of private events and benefits, and these have included, for instance, trips to Italy and Bavaria with the Director and curators, and gala dinners in the Randolph Sculpture Gallery.
