Work Experience & Volunteering

The Ashmolean Museum is one of seven Oxford University museums and collections. We receive a large number of enquiries about work experience, work placements and voluntary opportunities within the Museum. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any further work placements until autumn 2015. Senior Museum Technician

Salary Grade 5: £24,057 - £28,695 p.a. Full time
Fixed Term Contract until September 2016

We now have an exciting opportunity to join our Museum Services team.

Our ideal candidate will help us to make sure our visitors enjoy an experience that exceeds their expectations. The objectives of the Museum Services Team are to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the Museum.

In order to achieve this, your background will be those of a multi-disciplinary, electrical, mechanical, joinery trade’s person. It is of paramount importance to always ensure that the work undertaken is carried out in accordance with supervisory instructions and Oxford University safety protocols.

It is essential that you are an excellent communicator who is focused on the visitors and customers and is able to demonstrate a flexible “can/will do” approach. This is an important and evolving role requiring a high degree of trade skill competencies. Aspects of your cabinet making / joinery responsibilities will include day to day maintenance tasks on our existing buildings and also the ability to deliver bespoke solutions for our busy exhibition program. You will be educated to at least NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a building skill.

Executive Assistant to the Director

Salary Grade 5: £24,057 - £28,695 p.a. Part time (18.25 hours per week)
Fixed Term Contract until the 31 March 2016

The Ashmolean Museum is advertising a rare opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic part time Executive Assistant.

The Director’s Office at the Ashmolean Museum is a high profile office which requires expert management to ensure that a professional service is provided to the Director, the Board and other key Museum contacts and stakeholders.

This position is a job share role that requires the post holder to work Wednesday (half day) Thursday & Friday (full days) of each week. The post holder will also be required to cover holiday leave working full time hours from Monday to Friday for up to 18 days p.a. to cover the 0.6 fte job share. The successful candidate must be able to forge a good working relationship with the current post holder to ensure that the service and support provided to the Director is seamless at all times.

You will need to demonstrate extensive experience at an executive level and have excellent communication skills, including a good command of written and spoken English. You will have sound IT skills, be extremely well organised, with the ability to prioritise a busy workload. An informed interest in art and archaeology, and an enthusiasm for the Ashmolean Museum, its collections and its visitors are also highly desirable attributes.
