The Ashmolean Museum is one of seven Oxford University museums and collections. We receive a large number of enquiries about work experience, work placements and voluntary opportunities within the Museum. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any further work placements until autumn 2014. Ashmolean Evening Events Manager

Salary Grade 6: £26,527 - £31,644 p.a. Full time
2 years fixed term contract

This is a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Events Manager to oversee the delivery of evening events held at Britainís oldest Museum.

These events will include high profile dinners attended by many VIPs, corporate drinks, gala dinners and weddings.

All take place after the museum closes. After meeting the clients you will ensure that the event runs smoothly, maintaining the strong reputation that the Ashmolean events team have built over the years. You will ensure that all event staff delivers excellent customer service and that the museumís collections are protected.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate staff and have significant experience in running customer-focused resources while delivering a planned event.

Beattie Archive OLIS Cataloguer (Department of Eastern Art)

Salary Grade 4.1: £10.73 per hour (£20,374 p.a. pro rata) Variable hours contract
Fixed Term contract for up to 6 months

The Ashmolean Museum is recruiting a part-time fixed term OLIS cataloguer in order to list the holdings of the May Beattie Library through SOLO. In 2000, carpet specialist May Beattie bequeathed her personal archive and collection of carpet fragments to the Ashmolean. The archive comprises over 1000 books and catalogues about textiles and rugs, which have been recently rehoused in the Jameel Study Centre to provide scholars with valuable references.

The post-holder must be fully trained in OLIS, be familiar with Bodleian cataloguing standards, and have demonstrated experience with cataloguing titles in multiple languages, including, ideally, eastern European ones.

Part time Retail Assistants

Salary Grade 1.3: £7.73 per hour Variable Hours Contract Ė Starting September 2014

We are looking Retail Assistants who can work part time hours over weekdays and/or weekends. A degree of flexibility is essential when working as part of this small team.

The Ashmolean Museum book and gift shops need reliable part-time sales and display assistants, to start in early September. Previous retail experience and knowledge of an EPOS system is desirable, but not essential, as training will be given.

Youíll need to have first class communication skills and enjoy using them, along with good generalist IT skills. You will be expected to be of smart appearance and have the ability to work on your own initiative within a small team. You will be able to carry out the physical demands of the role, as you will move stock from the delivery point to stockrooms and from stockrooms to the point of display.
