The Ashmolean Museum is one of seven Oxford University museums and collections. We receive a large number of enquiries about work experience, work placements and voluntary opportunities within the Museum. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any further work placements until autumn 2014. Ashmolean Commercial Events Manager

Salary Grade 6: £27,057 – £32,277 p.a. Full time
Fixed term for 2 years

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Events Manager to join the Ashmolean Events team.

Events held at the Ashmolean bring an essential source of revenue which helps support the work of the museum.

The Commercial Events Manager is expected to grow the commercial events business at the Ashmolean, to promote, sell and plan a large number of events and to build relationships with a variety of customers.

These events will include high profile dinners and evening drinks receptions in the galleries, lectures, meetings, performances…, and weddings in the Ashmolean Dining Room.

We are looking for someone interested in the work of the Ashmolean with a passion for events who will strive to make every event better than the last one and will take pride in maintaining the strong reputation that the Ashmolean Events team have built over the years.

To succeed, you will have the experience of pro-actively developing the events business within an unusual venue and of achieving challenging events and catering sales targets. You will have the experience of planning and running high profile events where attention to detail is paramount, and excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will work as part of a team and must be prepared to help colleagues out with the planning and execution of events when required.

Part-time Security Officer (Variable Hours)
Up to 5 posts

Salary Grade 2: £8.31 per hour
Fixed Term contract for 6 months
Required to start as soon as possible

We now have an exciting opportunity to join our Security Department.

As a Part-Time Security Officer you will be part of a small specially-trained team, responsible for the efficient running of the St Giles staff and education reception, carrying out security patrolling activities as well as other security duties. You will provide a professional and welcoming service, ensuring the efficient distribution of deliveries to this area, and at all times help to protect our priceless collections.

You will enjoy combining the variety of reception, security and health and safety as well as portering and customer service.

A first class communicator with excellent customer service skills, you will have the ability to remain calm under pressure and know how to follow emergency and fire procedures, as well as directing and assisting others in emergency situations. You will also have the initiative to diffuse conflict, as well as the ability to be alert and reliable when dealing with more routine situations.

You will be confident to work alone and unsupervised and have experience of operating surveillance and communications systems. You will be trustworthy, with an impeccable background and an impressive track record of working in the security industry.

This role is predominantly evenings over 7 days, but may include some weekend days, given the casual nature of the contract the hours may vary.

As a variable hours worker, you will be willing to work daytime, evening, weekend and bank holiday shifts when required and will be available to work more than 15 hours a week if required. There may be occasions when there is no finishing time rostered and the shift will be until the close of business.
