The Ashmolean Museum is one of seven Oxford University museums and collections. We receive a large number of enquiries about work experience, work placements and voluntary opportunities within the Museum. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any further work placements until autumn 2015. Preventive Conservator

Salary Grade 6: £27,057 Ė £32,277 p.a. (pro rata) Permanent contract
Part time - 2 days per week (40% FTE)

There is now an exciting opportunity for a preventive conservator to join the Ashmolean Museumís dynamic and progressive Conservation Department to help develop and deliver preservation and conservation of its collections. Preventive conservation is critical to the operation of the museum from loans and exhibitions to collections care, showcase development to day to day management of preventive systems. You will manage a large telemetric monitoring system, with reference to the museumís Building Management System, and work closely with departments across the museum and University Estates Services by analysing and interpreting environmental data, managing and maintaining passive and active environmental control systems and undertaking materials testing as required in support of collections care. You will have a conservation qualification and experience in one area of material specialisation. The position is 2 days per week, the post holder will be working with the current preventive conservator.

The Ashmoleanís collections are of world class importance so applicants must be able to demonstrate an advanced level of relevant skill, be enthusiastic and highly motivated, have experience working in an extremely busy team environment, and used to meeting deadlines whilst maintaining exemplary professional standards.
