DOCTORAL RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Curatorial staff at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology welcome the opportunity to supervise doctoral students in subjects within the remit of the Museum.

Research undertaken at the Museum is highly diverse, ranging across the departments of Antiquities, the Cast Gallery, Conservation, Eastern Art, the Heberden Coin Room (numismatics) and Western Art.

Applications are considered through the relevant Faculties but we encourage prospective doctoral students to contact potential supervisors within the Museum in advance to discuss their applications. The research interests of all our curators are listed under People.

You will find helpful information about doctoral studies on the relevant subject websites for Archaeology, Classics, History, History of Art, and Oriental Studies.

Details about how to apply are under Graduate admissions, where there is also information about fees, funding and scholarships.

In addition, Oxford's CDP studentship programme offers up to four fully funded doctoral studentships per year across the University’s six gardens, libraries and museums.
