With Liam McNamara, Keeper of the Department of Antiquities and Lisa and Bernard Selz Curator for Ancient Egypt & Sudan at the Ashmolean

The Ashmolean's collections from ancient Egypt are among the most extensive in Britain and its ancient Egyptian galleries are much loved by visitors.

In this talk Liam McNamara will discuss our early Egyptian statuettes, with a particular focus on the stone statuette known as 'MacGregor Man' which has been the subject of controversy since it first came to light at the end of the 19th century.

Is it an authentic ancient Egyptian sculpture dated to about 3100 BCE, or is MacGregor Man a masterful modern forgery?
