With Lynn Hulse, ornamental embroidery expert
Using a limited palette of simple colours and playing with light and shade in the placing of stitches, you will get the rare opportunity to embroider one of May Morris’s botanical designs from the Ashmolean collection, and to study original examples of 19th-century needlework.
May Morris (1862–1938, daughter of William and Jane Morris) was the talented, influential embroiderer and designer of the Arts & Crafts movement.
This practical workshop, led by Lynn Hulse, will also explore the changing attitude towards colour in the production of hand-embroidered textiles for the home during the 19th century and the Victorian era.
