With Mallica Kumbera Landrus, exhibition curator and Professor and Keeper of Eastern Art, Curator of Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art
This talk will focus on Surovi's first solo exhibition in the UK, 'Climate Culture Care'. The exhibition currently showing in Gallery 8 is special because it marks the first time a Bangladesh-based artist has showcased their work in a UK museum.
Mallica will share insights about the show and the related publication that explores Surovi’s latest creations.
Surovi’s works tackle important environmental issues and highlight the deep connection between nature and people, especially in Bangladesh. There, the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, is facing serious challenges due to climate change.
Who Carries Whom? - 1, Soma Surovi Jannat, 2025, archival ink pen on Khadi paper, acrylic colour
In her paintings and drawings, including a large temporary piece drawn directly on the walls of the gallery, Surovi addresses pressing global issues and the impact of natural disasters on social inequality. Through her work, she encourages viewers to think about how these challenges affect our world.
This talk will be recorded and available if you are unable to attend on the day.
