With Zoë Bicât, Tai Chi instructor at Breathe. Sense. Move.
Join us for this workshop to learn some easy Tai Chi movements, while surrounded by the beautiful artwork in the Ashmolean Museum’s European Art Gallery.
Tai Chi is the Art of balancing Yin Yang, a dynamic process of exploring contrast in numerous aspects. It is an ancient Science that exists within the exploration of movement and perception in each moment - it has the present, the contemporary, at its core.
Qigong is a gently strengthening form of exercise with over 4,000 years of tradition. It invites a nuanced sense of what’s going on in your body at various levels of depth. Your breath begins to lengthen gradually, to synchronise with a flow of movements guided by intention and underpinned by an awareness of our how life force travels around the body, and connects with the life force in nature. With practice, qigong allows several rhythms in the body - blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate - to harmonise with each other at the same resonant frequency. The effect is calming for the entire nervous system, and leaves you with a greater sense of mental clarity and vitality.
This 45 minute sessions will focus on Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi, aka ‘the 18 movements’, along with a few shorter forms of seasonally-specific qigong comprising just two or three simple movements to support health and wellbeing.
Zoë Bicât is a certified and insured instructor of Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi since 2016, and teaches groups and individuals locally.
No previous knowledge is required. It is recommended that you bring a yoga mat, or similar, for this workshop.
We advise that this event is suitable only for those who can stand for 45 minutes. Please be advised that if you partake in this event, you do so at your own risk.
