2019 APPEAL: MEET ME AT THE MUSEUM
THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who supported our 2018 Annual Appeal and helped the Ashmolean raise over £65,000! The overwhelming public response to the appeal showed just how important involving older people in our programme is. The funds raised from the appeal will support our work to make the Museum a more welcoming place for older people, especially those affected by loneliness and those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, supporting practical changes to our galleries such as improved seating, ramp access and clearer labelling, and creating opportunities for older visitors to enjoy creative and cultural participation.
We are very grateful to all those who generously donated to this appeal, allowing us to enrich the lives of our older visitors. Any additional funds we raise will go towards the Museum’s vital work, including public engagement, education, conservation and display.

NEW PROGRAMMES AT THE MUSEUM
MEET ME AT THE MUSEUM
The Ashmolean runs regular events for older visitors, including the popular, monthly social workshops which stimulate new conversations and learning through behind-the-scenes access, object handling, and specialist-led tours.
Admission is free but booking is advised and the sessions are currently rotating around the galleries, museums and libraries of the University of Oxford. To book a place, or to find out more, email beth.mcdougall@prm.ox.ac.uk
VOLUNTEER
Most volunteers work with the public: from helping with family-friendly activities to staffing the information desk, and from stewarding late-night events to delivering introductory tours. A small number of volunteers help in other areas of the collections: assisting curatorial, administrative or education staff in a more behind-the-scenes capacity.
A NEW OLDER PEOPLE’S ACTION TEAM
We are actively seeking the opinions of older people, both regular visitors and those who may be put off due to real or imagined barriers.
By supporting Meet Me at the Ashmolean you will enable us to create an Older People’s Action Team encouraging our older visitors to contribute to, and help co-curate the Museum’s programme, offering unique insight into how we can improve our physical spaces including signage, display cases and seating.
