TEACH AND INSPIRE

Our special appeals support our vital work across the Museum, including education, special acquisitions, and conservation and display of our collections.

Most recently, our special appeal has been to support out Secondary Education Programme, and we are delighted to say that, thanks to generous grants from four family trusts and the support of the public, we have secured the funds needed to continue this exciting programme for another three years. Thank you to all those who supported this special cause!

How You Can Help

You can still help us to continue programmes such as this across the Museum, by making a donation today. With your support, we can continue to expand our audience, and share our knowledge and collections further.

Thank you for your generous support.

What does our Secondary Education Programme do?

In the past three years, we have vastly expanded our offer for taught gallery sessions and resources for teachers. We now also offer four Sixth Form Study Days a year, which provide a taste of the Oxford experience. These connect pupils with leading academics from across the University, while they explore our world-class collections, opening their eyes to the opportunities of Higher Education and raising their aspirations.

Alongside this, the Ashmolean has initiated a new panel for young people, the CREATIVES, who meet each month to go behind the scenes at the Museum, and plan and deliver events for other young people. The group has already found the experience invaluable for developing transferable skills, building confidence and discovering their strengths. To date, all this activity has been funded by donations.

Our secondary education programme has been hugely successful, and last year, we welcomed almost 11,000 secondary students to the Museum, from over 140 schools around the country. At one of the Museum’s LiveFriday events earlier this year, our youth group CREATIVES led activity sessions inspired by Turner’s High Street, Oxford to an audience of 2,000 visitors.

Since its founding, the Ashmolean has been intended as a place of discovery and learning, and we need your support to keep it that way. Please make a donation today to help us continue to share our treasures and expertise with future generations.

“I have met so many interesting people and gained a lot of insight into how the Museum runs behind the scenes. The highlight… has been organising and coming up with ideas for Museum events as well as… learning about different roles and jobs”
