With Marion Davies, award-winning fine art documentary photographer
In this fascinating talk, Marion Davies will discuss the life of her father, Herbert Bier. She will recount his story from having to leave his uncle’s firm in Frankfurt, after they were both forbidden as Jews to work as art dealers, to his experiences as a refugee art dealer in Britain.
In particular Marion will reference his professional and personal relationship with Ashmolean Keeper Sir Karl Parker and the works Bier enabled the Ashmolean to acquire between 1942 and 1962.

This event is part of the Shaped by Nature 2026 season of events.
