All appointments should be requested at least 2 weeks in advance.
If you are late or need to cancel your appointment, please notify Coin Room staff as soon as possible.

Please note that you may be required to complete additional forms to access the archives. 

  • Collection items should be requested in advance of your visit. Items may be selected by browsing the HCR WebApp, and in consultation with the relevant curator (see our staff profiles). 
  • Photography of the collection and related materials is allowed for personal use only.

Finding the Coin Study Room 

Please report to the Museum Welcome Desk in the Atrium for directions. A plan of the Museum can be found here. There is stair and lift access to all floors.

Large bags and suitcases must be left in the Museum’s lockers on the Lower Ground Floor. Please note, a £1 coin is required to use the lockers. 

Safety Protocols in the Coin Room 

Any small personal bags/coats must be left by the inside of the door upon entry to the Coin Room. 

Please do not bring any drinks, food, or chewing gum into the Coin Room. ONLY a sealed water bottle is permitted, but it must not be placed on or consumed near any surface where the Collection is handled.  

Please use pencils only to take notes. 

Coin Room staff will supervise your visit. Please follow any guidance that they may give you. 

If you have access needs, please inform us in advance so that we may best facilitate your visit.
