Bookings and refunds during the Coronavirus outbreak

If you have booked tickets for exhibitions and events that have been cancelled and would like to leave your purchase as a generous donation to the Ashmolean, we would be extremely grateful.  We will also offer the opportunity to rebook tickets where possible. If this is not possible, all ticket holders will be refunded.

We would ask that you do not contact the Box office directly and we promise that we will be in touch with you soon.  We very much appreciate your understanding and patience.

Do I need to pre-book?

We strongly recommend you pre-book your exhibition and event tickets to avoid disappointment.

When are busy exhibition times?

The exhibitions are busy at weekends, and busy on weekdays between 11am and 3pm. If you are planning to visit at these times, then advance booking is essential to avoid disappointment.

What’s the best way to buy tickets for an exhibition?

We recommend you book your tickets online using the links above. Our telephone line can get very busy so we recommend you book online to avoid waiting. You can also buy tickets at the museum, on the day of your visit, if the exhibition has not already sold out for a time slot.

Will I receive tickets in the post?

No, you will receive your tickets attached to a confirmation email shortly after completing your online booking. Please print your tickets and present them at the exhibition entrance, or show them on a mobile phone. Entry cannot be guaranteed if tickets are not presented.

What if I can’t find my booking email?

Please check your spam/junk folders. If you still cannot find your booking email, please email us before your visit so we can help resolve the issue. Our ticketing email address is:

Yes. Access to the exhibition is via lift and the entire exhibition is wheelchair accessible with handheld labels available.

Disabled visitors should book a regular exhibition ticket at full or concession price, depending on eligibility. Accompanying carers do not need a ticket and can access the exhibition for free with a ticket-holding disabled visitor.

Who can enter exhibitions for free?

Entry to exhibitions is free for children under 12, Ashmolean Members and University of Oxford students. No tickets need to be purchased in advance for those who are granted free entry. Members must show their membership card at the exhibition entrance, and University of Oxford students must show their student card.

Disabled visitors should book a regular exhibition ticket at full or concession price, depending on eligibility. Accompanying carers do not need a ticket and can access the exhibition for free with a ticket-holding disabled visitor.

Who can purchase a concession ticket?

For exhibition tickets: Concession exhibition tickets are available for University of Oxford staff and alumni, and those over 65s. All non-Oxford University students, children aged 12–17, persons uner 25, those who are unemployed, and Art Fund Members may purchase discounted tickets.

For event tickets (talks/courses/tours): The above list applies. Ashmolean Members are also eligible for reduced ticket prices for events.

I am a Friend/Member of the Museum, can I bring a guest to the exhibitions?

Ashmolean Membership only covers exhibition entry for yourself and any other named members if you hold a joint membership. You may bring guests with you into the exhibitions if you hold an 'Individual + Guest' or 'Joint + Guests' membership. If you hold an 'Individual' or 'Joint' membership then you will need to purchase a ticket for any guests who are not named members. To avoid queueing at the ticket desk on the day, or long waiting times for telephone bookings, we strongly recommend you book guest tickets in advance online.

Our telephone line can get very busy. If you telephone our Box Office and we are unable to answer immediately, because the lines are busy, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
